![]() | personally, if the speed limit was changed to 90 mph, then I would consider starting another petition to reduce it back to 70.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | yes cal sometimes there are whether they should be there is another matter also its a well known fact doing high speeds on a mway increases speed on other roads then add in driver awareness which is not high after coming off an mway Last edited by pompeyfaith; 10th May 2009 at 10:44. |

| Basic Account Holder | Remember back in the early years of motor transport 30mph was conciderd too fast. as technology improved speed limits were raised. There are certain sections of the autobahn in germany that dont have any speed limits. I dont see their accident and safety records being any worse than those in the uk with our 70mph limit. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | because of the nature of the uk road layout and systems in place and not 100% involves mway driving so the driver passes u doing 90 and gets a mile down the road then u catch up doing 70 because he has been held up then he gets away again and comes of motorway and gets held up by all manor of hazards where as you stick to speed limits and get a relatively smooth route i kid u not seen it happen so many times and to end u have a big smile because u have driven in a safe and courteous manner and he/she has been totally reckless and endangered life

| Basic Account Holder | This campaign is to increase the limit on motorways though. I can see the need for speed restrictions on country lanes and built up towns , cities and even A roads. Also i think certain sections of the motorway need speed restrictions (as in germany) but other sections can easily tolerate a 90mph limit. |

| Basic Account Holder | I drive on motorways for a living. The standard of driving by some people is appalling. There is a huge difference between 70mph and 90mph. The time to increae the speed limit is when people can be trusted to drive as they were taught. For example not to overtake on inside, not to sit so close behind my van I cant see them in my mirrors. Or show rspect to road workers when there is a reduced speed limit. Then of course the best bit not to use their mobile phones whilst driving. I have driven in Germany the roads will have been built for the speed limits and driver training and attitudes will be different. So no I will not sign a petition until other drivers behave properly! Perhaps tommorrow morning on the M25 and M4 everything will be different I might then reconsider but I am not holding my breath. |

![]() | and i often drive on parts of the M5 and M6 and there is hardly any traffic at all and journey like this get very long and can become very tiresom, i have found that a slight ingrese in speed makes me more allert whereas a slow 60 to 65 mph has me feeling tired. dont ask me why this happens because i dont know. I think 90mph would work well on some sections of motorway but possibly not on other sections. Just as 60mph works on some types of road and 20 to 30 mph works on others Last edited by SURFBOY; 10th May 2009 at 12:28. Reason: to add to. |

| Basic Account Holder | The two old chesnuts on this subject are as follows. "I only speed when it is safe to do so". Or, "what about 2 in the morning on a deserted motorway." Unfortunately in relation to the first chesnut, drivers dont always seem able to pick the right time. To the second a nightime motorway is just as dangerous. In fact many serious rtcs occur at night made more serious because of speed. To be honest a motorway will never be hazard free. If you approach a bend or exit/entrance at 90mph it might not give you time to react. If the lorry you overtake has a blow out then to control your vehicle at 90mph will require a lot of skill. If you are in the centre lane overtaking a foreign LGV then you better hope you are not in their blind spot at 90mph. The bottom line is if you look around would you be happy for people to drive nearly 20% faster the way they drive at the moment? |
