    Default Private vehicle purchase problem

    Hello everyone

this is my first post so would like to say Hi first..

Right then, this concerns a private motorbike purchase so im not sure this is the correct section for this post, however...

On the 7th of June (this year) i purchased a motorbike from a ebayautolinker.com autolinking image seller (its his own bike) now this seller had a feedback of 980 and at the time 100% good so had no issues with buying from him.

Now the bike had a very valuable private reg plate that was to be removed for the sale and the original plate restored. on going to collect the bike i saw that the original plate was indeed back on the bike but i then found that the paperwork had not yet come back from the DVLA, there was however a photocopy of the log book and a bill from the DVLA for £80 for the plate transfer, there was also all old mot's and tax in both the original plate and the later private plate which i was also given. I also saw the current tax disc and mot which the seller had to keep to send off, i hpi the bike and all came back fine and matched all seller details etc and with such a good ebay feedback i decided to take the bike with the paperwork to follow (new tax mot and V5).

Whats worrying me now is i havent yet had the paperwork, i no its been less than 2 weeks but the DVLA quote 7 days to issue the new tax mot and reg, with the V5 to follow a few weeks later.

the problem i have is i have been chasing things up with the seller who has told me he forwarded the new papework on to me on Monday morning but its not arrived, i then called him to check and he now said his wife sent it but didnt no what time. ive called the DVLA and they are saying the is an application but as far as they would tell me they havent yet sent anything out, so im now getting a bit concerned.

The thing is i cant see any reason for him to mess me about, he needs to get his reg plate as its worth a lot more than the bike and the mot and tax are worthless to him now so i must just be getting a bit paranoid but that said you no when you get that gut feeling somethings not right!!

I have to wait a bit longer for the post incase it show's up by the end of the week, but i have a feeling it wont and it will be well i sent it, he has no proof of postage either, i would have sent it registered post if was me..

So sorry for the long post but any views on this would help, im thinking if need be i could apply for a V5 which will take sometime and then get the bike mot'ed and taxed but wont be easy i think. bike is insured though.

the seller has also since had negative ebay feedback after selling a boat engine that "so it says" dosent work and that seller dosent want to know...

    thanks for taking the time

Depending what DVLA office he has had it changed at, the time can vary. Once i had bought a car from down the country and it took about 4 weeks to get the V5 after a plate change. Ive just changed my own plate this week and changed my address on the V5 and had the lot back within 6 days,

    thanks for the reply.

problem i have is the seller has told me he has had the new mot and tax back from the dvla, and that he has posted it on to me but it hasnt arrived. ive spoken to the dvla and they are saying that according to there records they infact havent yet sent out any of the new paperwork.

so either they are wrong and the paperwork has gone out and is either lost in the post or just not arrived yet (fingers crossed). or for some reason the seller is lying to me, i have to wait for now and see if the paperwork turns up is just late for some reason, but if it dosent im not sure what my next move is.

ive called him and has very much given the view of well i sent it so thats that and wasnt interested, seller didnt get any proof of postage etc just went out Monday.

its not the log book that concerns me as that will take about a month to come back, its just the new mot and tax and comfemation of the new reg details that is needed asap.

i hope it turns up today or tomorrow and has just been held up in the post...
