Re: used car purchase
Write a civil letter explaining that you are now
redundant etc; and are no longer in a position to purchase.
Don't beg, just say that under the circumstances you are cancelling the order.
It's a million to one that he will go ahead with court action and if he does, you can tell the judge why. No one can get blood from a stone, if you have no money then you have no money full stop.
Send you letter recorded delivery.

One other thing Charlie. If you have ordered this car from a distance, ie; you haven't seen the car, then you will be able to reject it under the distance selling regulations.
That means you have to give no reason at all why you don't want it.

Re: used car purchase
Thanks again Conniff. There was a 'considerable amount' of discount offered for the car on which i was not first interested. But considering the amount i thought why not. The salesperson used this and said this offer is only on that particular day only. If i want to secure the car he asked me to put a deposit. I deposited £50 without taking the test drive and told him i would come back next day for test driving. After the test driving i noticed an accident part which he said that he would repair it me. All this took place on last Saturday and Sunday. The salesperson asked me to take insurance to buy the tax disc, which i also did on wednesday. Only on friday night i found out that my financial situation would affect me buying this car and yesterday morning i told salesperson. Following that he threatened me over phone that his legal team and police will be involved if refuse to sign. I have cancelled my
car insurance on that car today. This is the whole story.

You will be ok, just loose your deposit. Did you sign anything?

Re: used car purchase
This has nothing to do with the police so worry not on that, he's just trying to frighten you. The 'one day' offer is used by many sellers in all walks of life so you don't go home and have second thoughts and not go back. He obviously was making a profit on whatever he sold it for.

Re: used car purchase
you are under no obligation to purchase the car and to be honest its worth writing a leter of complaint to OFT detailing the threats and if the dealer does ring, politely tell him to do one. I work for a massive car dealership and to be honest we have cancellations all the time due to peoples financial situations changing literally overnight and to be honest we always refund the deposit because when a persons circumstancies change for the better they will remember that and come back.
